Seeking Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Freeport Park District is seeking a full-time Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to perform golf course grounds and turf maintenance. The ideal candidate shall be a responsible, safety-oriented team player and leader that enjoys working outdoors. Experience in turf maintenance or landscaping is preferred.

Duties: The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for leading a team of golf course maintenance workers to ensure the golf course turf and grounds are maintained to standards. Job duties include turfgrass management; operation and routine maintenance of equipment; mowing; maintenance of irrigation system; tree trimming and gardening; building repairs and upkeep; risk management; herbicide and pesticide applications; and other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent. Weekend and holiday hours are required.

Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate’s Degree in Horticulture or Turf Management preferred. Must have valid Illinois Driver’s License with capability of attaining CDL and experience operating equipment. Experience with landscape maintenance including herbicide and pesticide applications preferred. Ability to attain Illinois Pesticide Applicators License within six months of employment.

Starting Hourly Wage: $16 – 20/hr.
