Winter Activities

ICE SKATING
Ice skating and hockey are now available in Read Park at the ice skating rink located adjacent to the Read Park Family Aquatic Center. Skaters can enjoy a lighted ice skating facility, weather permitting. Ice rink is for shared use for general skating and ice hockey. When general skaters are present, hockey is restricted to West half of ice rink. Call the Freeport Park District’s Ice Skating Hotline at (815) 235-6114 ext. 8 for the latest updates on ice conditions.

THURSDAY NIGHT HOCKEY
Thursday nights will be reserved for ice hockey at the 9:00 PM. General skating will be closed at this time to accommodate full rink hockey. There is no cost to participate, but waivers must be signed prior to playing. Youth under the age of 18 must have a parent signed waiver to participate.  Waivers can be obtained at the Park District Office during regular business hours.

SLEDDING
Krape Park continues to be one of the most popular destinations for sledding. The sledding hill is located near the Koenig Theater in Krape Park. Call the s Sledding Hotline at (815)235-6114, ext. 8, for updates on sledding conditions.  Sledding enthusiasts are required to follow posted rules and guidelines of the Freeport Park District.

COUNTRY SKIING AND SNOWSHOEING
Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are low impact workouts and an opportunity for some outdoor winter fun!  Oakdale Nature Preserve and Krape Park are great locations to partake in both activities.

SKI AND SNOWSHOE RENTALS
country skied or snowshoed rent them for the weekend. The skis and snowshoes will be available to pick up and drop off at the Park District main office in Read Park.  Cross-country skis, poles and boots are available in a variety of sizes.  Available on first come, first serve basis.
