SUMMARY:Freeport Park District Awarded Funding through Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Program
DESCRIPTION:Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) announced that the Freeport Park District has been awarded grant funding as part of the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program. The Freeport Park District is among 67 park projects across Illinois receiving funding to support land acquisition and the development of recreational opportunities that strengthen local communities. \nThrough this program\, the Freeport Park District was awarded $582\,445.50 with equal matching to support a wide range of improvements at Krape Park\, one of the community’s most cherished and highly visited destinations. \nKrape Park is an award-winning park and a major recreational hub in the City of Freeport\, attracting visitors from throughout the region each year. The planned improvements will enhance accessibility\, safety\, and recreational offerings for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. Proposed project elements include the addition of a scenic nature overlook with seating\, an ADA-accessible fishing pier and related accessibility improvements\, lighting for pickleball courts\, two new playgrounds\, a rock-climbing boulder\, disc golf equipment\, parking lot improvements\, and updated wayfinding signage. Project work is anticipated to begin in Summer of 2026 and be complete by December of 2027. \nTogether\, these enhancements will help ensure Krape Park continues to provide a safe\, inclusive\, and welcoming environment that encourages outdoor recreation\, social interaction\, and community gatherings for years to come.

SUMMARY:Public Notice: Tree Removal along Park Blvd
DESCRIPTION:Eleven trees located in Krape Park along Park Boulevard have reached a condition where their continued growth interferes with overhead power lines\, requiring frequent pruning by the utility company. Repeated trimming has caused significant structural stress and deformities in the trees. As a result\, these trees are scheduled for removal beginning Monday\, May 4. Traffic is not expected to be impacted during the removal process. The Freeport Park District plans to replace them with thirty new trees better suited for growth near overhead utilities. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

SUMMARY:Read Park Cardboard Boat Regatta
DESCRIPTION:Set sail for a day of friendly competition and poolside fun! Participants will compete in teams of two\, showcasing their creativity and boating skills as they race homemade\, decorated\, and designed boats across the water. All boats must be fully built prior to race day. Awards will be presented for speed\, creativity\, and team spirit! Standard admission for spectators and must sit in designated seating area. Swimming is not permitted for spectators. Registration is by team\, and only one person per team is required to register. Once registration closes on July 10\, all teams will receive a list of rules and accepted materials. Event check in will begin at 9am with races and awards to follow. Open swim will be available after the races.
